The Key to Success….Get Help

Jun 26 | The Key to Success….Get Help

As I sat in a workshop today, a phrase that stuck out was Get Help. In learning a new software application, often times, one finds themselves involved in the struggle of learning and adjusting to new language and concepts that challenge ones thinking and knowledge. Interestingly enough, you can read the instructions, be an avid reader and still, have an issue learning the latest and greatest in technology. Why; new terminology, unclear directions, and foreign language. How many times have you put something together and found that the instructions missed a simple step? You can and will find yourself in life needing to Get Help!

Follow up:

Example:), though no instructions were found, last night I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out how to set the alarm in the hotel last night. The Nylo in Plano, is a very modern place and has all the latest gadgets and trinkets. Though I a make no claim to be the technology guru, I consider myself to be pretty good with technology, and I just couldn’t figure it out (Thank God for wake up calls :)). Had it been earlier, I would have called to the front desk to GET HELP, but seeing as though the death of Michael Jackson tied up everyone at the front desk (took a long time for them to answer) I chose to call it a night.

It occurred to me that even the greatest inventors, owners, educators; world changers have all used a principle key to helping them obtain success; Get Help. Take a few minutes to list all of the people you know that have gone through life without any help. Now, once you make that list, list all the people that you know that received help. If you have anyone on your list of people that have gone through life without receiving help , please email me their name. I would love to meet them.

Doesn’t life just scream GET HELP???? Yes, I am on my soap box. As a minister and educator, I can’t recall how many stories that I hear from people who could have changed their present if they would have asked for help. How many people knew that help was needed, but remained silent until it was too late (Yes my Gifted and Talented Parents on the edge of returning to regular classes…No names were mentioned in this blog or even in my head while writing this blog:). And yes I know you’re going to email me. I love all of you:))?

Let’s be honest. We are all on the air plane, waiting our turn to walk to the door and jump at a target. Is it just human nature to wait until the very last minute to pull the ripcord? Must everything be such an adventure? Do we enjoy the stress? The drama? The struggle? Maybe without it, it would all seem worthless? I don’t know!

Here’s my take. When you jump from the plane, enjoy your 10 second freefall and then pull the ripcord. Why freefall for 15 minutes? Why allow ourselves to struggle, especially when your success is at hand. Let’s agree to reach out for help, before it’s too late. This year, let’s not roll the dice with our future or your student’s future.

Ok, the grand finally!!! GET HELP!!! Don’t wait until the last minute. Access the rate of fall, estimate the distance of the ground, be honest with your prediction of the land, and make a decision. And if you know you are falling fast, pull the ripcord. Get the help needed to adjust and redirect your future.
