Creative Tutors of Plano
I was glad to see the article by Pamela Yip in the Dallas Morning News today, January 31, reminding parents of college-bound young adults of the importance of filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), the application that ensures you of having an opportunity for finanical aid. Unfortunately, too many families aren't filing the form because they think they are ineligible for financial aid when in fact a third of them would have qualified for financial aid. Other reasons that parents don't file, according to college financing expert, Mark Kantrowitz, is because they don't need financial aid or they don't want to take on student loan debt.
He was a child that did not want to be challenged. He had found ways around his teacher’s tried-and-true tricks. I found every good quality I could to commend. I brought the challenge with a warm heart. I made him face his fears with the confidence that any weakness could be overcome. He slowly began to open up, ask questions, and admit that he needed help. He developed new skills, he matured, and his grades improved. And even though he pretends to be a tough guy, he now smiles at his accomplishments and my heart smiles now too because it knows that he is sure of one truth: he can learn.

"Why My Tutor Rocks"

My Creative Tutors' tutor is the best-above the rest. Here are some reasons why. The math, we do together is more fun than a bath. When we do history, it is such a fun mystery. The reading is more fun than eating. The spelling is like being nice and helping. When we do stuff that’s middle school and high school, it’s really cool. Before I rest she helps me study for a test. When it’s time for her to leave, I look kind of glum. Then she gives me free gum. While you just walk and talk, my tutor Rocks!!!
Parents are natural advocates for their children. Who is your child’s first teacher? You are. Who is your child’s most important role model? You are. Who is responsible for your child’s welfare? You are. Who has your child’s best interests at heart? You do.
You know your child better than anyone else. The school is involved with your child for a few years. You are involved with your child for life. You should play an active role in planning your child’s education.
Jan Coltrain-Sapp is the owner of the Creative Tutors Plano. The role is a natural for her since she has always had a passion for education...both from a teaching and from a learning perspective. A Creative Tutors customer before she became an owner, Coltrain-Sapp calls Creative Tutors her "life preserver." When her daughter began having educational and learning difficulties at the age of three, Coltrain-Sapp became very active in her education. Through finding solutions for her daughter, she gained experience with the educational system and the law. She also developed heightened awareness of children's educational needs. Her experience as a working parent gives her particular sensitivity to other parents who work and want the best education for their child.
Coltrain-Sapp graduated with honors from the University of Northern Iowa with a business education major and taught at the community college level. Subsequently, she pursued an MBA in HR and Personnel Management at Northeast Missouri University and received her law degree from the University of Iowa.
