Mar 02 | Texas Independence Day

Though the final battle would not occur until April 21, 1836 at San Jacinto, the Republic of Texas was formed at a convention at Washington-on-the-Brazos on March 2, 1836, 174 years ago.  George C. Childress wrote the Texas Declaration of Independence, and it was signed on this day by 54 delegates, such as Sam Houston and Lorenzo de Zavala, representing each Texas settlement. In 1845, Texas became the 28th state of the United States.  Texans are still proud of the men who bravely fought for our freedom from Mexico and created the great state of Texas!

Feb 21 | Can You Solve This Math Problem?

Each week, I will post questions from released TAKS tests.  See if you can answer the questions our kids are required to know as they take the TAKS test each spring.

This question is from a 4th grade math TAKS test.

The table shows the number of square pyramids and the number of faces on these square pyramids.

Faces on Square Pyramids

Number of Square Pyramids         Number of Faces

4                                                                 20

8                                                                 40

12                                                               60

Which correctly describes the relationship in the table?

A.  Number of Square Pyramids + 16 = number of faces

B.  Number of Square Pyramids + 32 = number of faces

C.  Number of Square Pyramids x 4 = number of faces

D.  Number of Square Pyramids x 5 = number of faces
