February 6-10 is National School Counselors Week! Take a minute to send a message or stop by the counselors office and say "thank you" for everything they do for our children!
The third week of the 2011-2012 school year is closing out. Teachers will be preparing progress reports to share what they have learned about your child. As a parent myself, the new school year always brings about great anticipation and many questions. The first and foremost question on most of our minds is "Will my child be successful?" This question means so much more than a grade on a report. We need to ensure our kids are ready for college, careers and have the tools necessary to compete in our global economy. Creative Tutors of Frisco can help prepare your child. We offer a wide range of services from Pre-Kindergarten to the rigorous Advanced Placement High School courses. We look forward to partnering with you in your child's future.

An interesting disconnect between teachers and students about college readiness was revealed in the annual 2010 Deloitte Education Survey, released this week.
While just 31 percent of high school teachers think their graduating seniors are prepared for college, 68 percent of current college students say they were prepared for college coursework during their first year.
Still, about 28 percent of students surveyed had to take remedial classes to get up to speed. Other sources, such as the College Board, put that number as high as 40 percent.
The goal of student proficiency in reading and math will change to a standard of "college and career readiness" by 2020. This is a change from the previous deadline of 2014.
Schools will be able to add additional subject tests to their standardized tests for math and reading which will allow for a broader curriculum for the students thus providing a more balanced education and a more well rounded student.
School evaluations would shift from being punitive and begin offering more rewards for performance that meet or exceed the requirements.

Why Hire A Creative Tutor?
Studies show that the one-on-one teaching approach helps students better understand concepts that were difficult to learn in a group setting. Working one on one with a Creative Tutor allows the struggling student to ask questions that they may not be comfortable asking in a large group setting.
Students who seek tutoring outside the traditional classroom perform better in school and on standardized tests.
