5 key Components to the No Child Left Behind Reform

Mar 16 | 5 key Components to the No Child Left Behind Reform

The goal of student proficiency in reading and math will change to a standard of "college and career readiness" by 2020. This is a change from the previous deadline of 2014.

Schools will be able to add additional subject tests to their standardized tests for math and reading which will allow for a broader curriculum for the students thus providing a more balanced education and a more well rounded student.

School evaluations would shift from being punitive and begin offering more rewards for performance that meet or exceed the requirements.

Follow up:

More federal funding would be switched from formula-based allocations to competitive grants. The new system would build on the Obama administration’s Race to the Top program, which has offered stimulus money to states that both apply for the education funds in a competition and demonstrate a reform-oriented approach.

Schools that do not meet targets for school performance will not be required to provide students with extra tutoring and or with the option to transfer.
