The goal of student proficiency in reading and math will change to a standard of "college and career readiness" by 2020. This is a change from the previous deadline of 2014.

Schools will be able to add additional subject tests to their standardized tests for math and reading which will allow for a broader curriculum for the students thus providing a more balanced education and a more well rounded student.
