« Homemade Flame Torches Made by Body Spray: Parents Need To Know :: President Obama Signs American Recovery and Reinvestment Act »Creative Tutors would like to thank Zea WoodFire Grill for hosting our Creative Tutors Happy Hour tonight, April 15, 2009. The Happy Hour idea came from Julie Baker, Zea WoodFire Grill, Sales Manager. "I felt it was an important opportunity that the Zea WoodFire Grill family could share-in with the teacher community. We were excited to let local teachers from Creative Tutors know that we all appreciate the impact each tutor makes in a child's education. Economic times affect all walks of life and we felt that teachers all feel the impact greatly when a child's family is affected by the economy and extra stress is delivered to the classroom."

Jan Van Blarcum, Founder of Creative Tutors said, "The generosity of Zea WoodFire Grill has not only stopped with this event tonight. The Zea WoodFire Grill family supported our not for profit sister organization Creative Learning 4 Kids when Chef Ruben Compos provided food and service for a live auction item of a private dinner when the organization supported a fund raising event where proceeds were raised in support of tutoring low income student in the North Texas area." Additionally, Van Blarcum reminisced that last Spring, one of our Creative Tutors, Mr. Chavez is a school principal in DISD and was seeking a location that was affordable for he and two of his colleagues to take about 15 students out to a lunch before they were to leave the middle school and move onto the high school level. These students had been considered "youth in crises" and had made tremendous strides and on a path of success instead of failure. Creative Tutors was able to introduce Mr. Chavez to Chef Ruben Compos and Ruben was able to make this dream an affordable reality for these educators. Van Blarcum said, "Our tutor recounted that the students he took to Zea WoodFire Grill had never been to a sit down restaurant and they felt honored that they were considered important enough to be guests at this restaurant (in a private dining room) and would remember this experience for a lifetime. Mr. Chavez desperately wanted these students to know that he cared deeply for them and that he would always be available to them in their future. If times become hard and difficult he wanted these 15 students to be able to remember that he and their teachers cared about them and that our community cared about their success too.
Creative Tutors and Zea WoodFire Grill feel thrilled to be a part of the North Texas community and making it a place you are proud to call home.
