Many times parents and students become frustrated when their child has landed in the wrong educational environment. At a young age the child enters into a public or private school. Parents are excited and nervous when their child enters into formal education. The child feels a little stress and looks to the parent for reassurance and direction. If you have had school aged children you know exactly what I mean.
Parents usually are worried about the social situations their youngster is about to be faced with as they embark upon a new experience in Preschool or Kindergarten. Concerns about sharing, tying ones shoes or coloring within the lines seem very important. Rightfully so!

However, when the child begins to demonstrate learning at a different pace than their peers the real heart stopping concerns feel like a slap in the face as hopes and dreams begin to fade off into the distance. As a parent, I can personally identify with these feelings. The mother of two I felt the sting of Dyslexia knock on our learning door with my oldest child. Years later another knock on the learning door brought pain and frustration as we learned about visual processing issues.
My hopes and dreams for them for a brief moment felt crushed. The “what if’s” and “why my children” crept into my mind. I stopped those thoughts and realized that this was a bump in the journey we had embarked upon. My children had gifts! Gifts that we have been able to manage to work through and develop! Amazing strengths and skills emerged and learning began and mastery obtained and years later I look back on the early years and feel … “oh it was not so bad” but at the time our world was put on hold until the actions to obtain solutions were determined and put into place.
I Founded Creative Tutors in 1999. It was created because I recognized that parents needed support through the family learning journey. My own children were not immune to the bumps that are faced on the educational path and I wanted to help other families obtain the support that they needed. No one needs to feel alone in the process. No one needs to look forward and realize the next 12 years will be an impossible struggle. To feel they are alone in the process is daunting and truly not an option. Creative Tutors has become the answer for hundreds of children and their families by providing solutions to their unique educational journey.
My life has been dedicated to supporting students and parents through Creative Tutors.

In 1999, Jan Van Blarcum, Ph.D. founded Creative Tutors. As an educator, Dr. Van Blarcum understood the importance of personalized attention in a child's educational growth. Her passion for learning grew into a business endeavor that provides customized, one-on-one, in-home tutoring to children with a variety of learning needs. Every child receives personalized attention from certified/degreed educators. Jan has acquired invaluable experience through living abroad, teaching in many educational environments and has acquired business development experience. These unique experiences, coupled with her fervent desire to provide all children with the tools needed to achieve their potential in today's educational environment, led her to establish Creative Tutors and their sister organization Creative Learning 4 Kids, Inc. a 501(c)(3) company.
