Psychoeducational Evaluations

Oct 22 | Psychoeducational Evaluations

Diagnostic Learning Services offers psychoeducational evaluations for children pre-k through college. Services include evaluations for ADHD, depression, anxiety, oppositional behavior, and other behavioral disorders.

All psychoeducational assessments are conducted by a Licensed Psychologist and Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. The purpose of these psychoeducational assessments is to determine whether a student's behavior is affected by emotional and/or behavioral factors, as symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity, depression, anxiety, and oppositionality can all negatively impact a student's behavior and educational progress.

Assessment is a complex process that involves gathering, assimilating, and analyzing information from multiple sources. All assessments will consist of the following: an Intake Interview, a Teacher Interview, Direct Assessment with the student, and an Exit Interview. The Intake Interview is used to gather information regarding the student’s developmental history, behavior at home and school, relevant family history, and the current referral concern. Parents are also asked to complete various behavioral rating scales. The Teacher Interview is used to obtain the teacher’s perspective on the presenting problem, and the teacher is also asked to complete various behavioral rating scales. During the Direct Assessment portion of the evaluation process, the student and psychologist work together to gain insight into the presenting problem by completing multiple objective and associative measures. Finally, during the Exit Interview, the psychologist and parents meet to discuss the assessment and recommendations.

Through a team which includes a licensed psychologist, and educational diagnostician, and a speech therapist, Diagnostic Learning Services also offers evaluations to diagnose Pervasive Developmental Disorders (i.e., Autism, Asperger’s).
