Oct 16 | Milestones for 15-17 Year Olds

Middle adolescence is a time of physical, cognitive, and mental changes for most teenagers. Most girls will be physically mature by now and boys might still be maturing physically during this time. Teenagers might start to have concerns over body size and shape and weight. Eating disorders can be evident during this time as well.
During this phase of development, teenagers are developing their own personality and opinions. Peers are still important but other interests will develop as well. This is an important time to prepare for more independence and responsibility. Many start to work at this time and many will be leaving home soon after high school. Other changes during this time include:
Decreased conflict with parents
Increased independence from parents
Development of more intimate relationships
Decreased time spent with parents and more time spent with peers

As teenagers become more independent from parents, they are starting to be able to care and share with others. The relationships they are forming are deeper and more meaningful to them.

Oct 09 | Milestones for 12-14 Year Olds

Early adolescence is a time of many physical, emotional, mental, and social changes. Teens start to make more of their own choices about sports, friends, and school. They are more independent and have their own interests. Some of the emotional and social changes they go through include:
Focusing on self, going back and forth between having high expectations to having little confidence
Moodiness
More interest in their peer group and are easily influenced by their peer group
May appear short-tempered at times

This is a growth period where there is a transition from childhood to puberty. There are so many physical changes and that can cause them to worry about how they look to others. Even though they do not think they need their parents as much, they need constant support and guidance from them.
