« Free SAT Tests for Juniors in Texas Schools :: Texas Students Have High Scores on AP Exams »Below is a list of required vaccines for studnets who will attend Texas schools in the 2010-2011 school year. The list includes new requirements for those coming into kindergarten as well as those going into 7th grade. This is very important because students without the required immunizations or a valid exemption will not be allowed to attend school. Now is the time to get prepared and start getting doctor's appointments scheduled.
VACCINE REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS ENTERING KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 12th GRADE:
* 3 to 5 doses of diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP/DTP/DT/Td)
* 3 to 4 doses of polio
* 2 doses of measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR)
* 3 doses of hepatitis B
* 1 to 2 doeses of varicella
* 1 booster dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) 10 years
after the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria-containing vaccine
ADDITONAL VACCINE REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS ENTERING KINDERGARTEN, 1st, 7th, and 8th GRADE
* 2 doses of hepatitis A for students entering K-1st grade
* 2 doses of varicella for students entering K-1st and 7th-8th grade
* 1 booster dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) for students
entering 7th grade, if at least 5 years have passed since the last dose of
tetanus-diphtheria-containing vaccine
* 1 does of meningococcal for students entering 7th-8th grade

Cherrie Leggett Kilby graduated from Southwestern University with a BS in Education and has taught in elementary and middle school for over twenty years in the U.S., Taiwan, and Japan. In addition she has taught English as a Second Language in China. Cherrie pursued a Master's degree in Education with reading as her area of specialty. She continues to teach special needs students at the elementary level and also teaches reading at the local community college. Cherrie was a tutor for Creative Tutors when it was first founded and loved working with the families she met.
